Engaging Data Bites: What is Data Vault?
Another day, another Engaging Data Bites! Get ready to learn about DataVault!
About Data Vault –
Data Vault is a data modelling methodology and architecture for designing enterprise data warehouses. It is designed to provide a flexible, scalable, and extensible approach to data warehousing.
In a Data Vault architecture, data is organized into three types of tables: Hubs, Links, and Satellites.
- Hubs – represent business entities, such as customers or products.
- Links – represent the relationships between hubs.
- Satellites – contain additional attributes and historical data related to the hubs and links.
The Data Vault approach emphasises the use of automation and metadata to streamline the development and maintenance of Data Warehouses.
It also supports agile development methodologies by allowing for incremental changes and additions to the Data Warehouse as new requirements arise.
Overall, the Data Vault approach aims to provide a robust and adaptable foundation for Data Warehousing that can meet the evolving needs of modern businesses.
